Recycle Your Bike

Help bring joy, freedom, and a sense of ownership to children impacted by Arizona’s foster care system—one bike at a time.

Remember your first bike? You probably remember the color, the feel, maybe even the name you gave it. For many children in foster care, that experience has never come. Recycle Your Bicycle changes that by providing children with their very own bike—something they can be proud of and, for many, a practical way to get to school or work.

This program is powered by community generosity:

  • Partner businesses and individuals donate gently used bikes
  • Volunteers clean, repair, and refurbish each one with care
  • At a large December pick-up event, caregivers receive bikes requested for the children in their homes
  • Children who don’t need a bike receive a new toy or gift card selected just for them

Recycle Your Bicycle is more than a donation—it’s a gift of normalcy, joy, and independence for kids who need it most.

Ways to Volunteer with Recycle Your Bicycle

Want to help give a child in foster care the joy of having their very own bike? We need your help—and would love to have you on board.

Recycle Your Bicycle depends on dedicated volunteers and community partners to refurbish bikes and make the magic happen each year. Whether you’re skilled with tools or simply ready to lend a hand, there’s a place for everyone.

Ways you can help:

  • Volunteer on Saturdays to help clean and refurbish donated bikes—no experience necessary.
  • Spread the word about RYB to your friends, family, workplace, or local organizations.
  • Share our website to help raise funds or encourage others to get involved. Even better, ask your employer or group to support the effort.
  • Bring a group—RYB is a great opportunity for team-building and community service.

Donate a Bicycle

Donate a Used Bike – Give a Child the Gift of Joy and Independence

Have a gently used bike you no longer need? Donate it to Recycle Your Bicycle and help us provide children in foster care with their very own refurbished bike.

How to donate:

  • We accept gently used bikes of all sizes—from toddler to teen.
  • Bikes can be dropped off at participating locations during our collection season (typically August through October).
  • If you have a large quantity to donate or need help coordinating a drop-off, we’re happy to assist.

Every donated bike is carefully refurbished by volunteers and distributed to a child in foster care just in time for the holidays. For many, it’s their first bike ever—a gift of freedom, confidence, and belonging.

To find a drop-off location or schedule a donation, contact us at recycleyourbicycle@azafap.org
or 602-884-1801.

Thank you for turning your unused bike into something truly meaningful.
